As some of you might have read from my last post, I celebrated my 27th birthday at the coolest place ever. Infamously called “White Town by the Sea.”
The Grand Hotel Heiligendamm is a luxury hotel in Heiligendamm, a small city by the Baltic coast just a two and a half hour drive from Berlin, Germany. The complex consists of six buildings which were all built as a seaside resort between 1793 and 1870. It is renowned to be the first example of resort architecture. You might know it from June 2007 where it hosted the infamous 33rd G8 summit with all the world leaders. Well if it was good enough for them, well let´s just say…. I couldn´t wait to check it out and judge for myself whilst enjoying a relaxing few days!!
200 years ago, Heiligendamm was the Riviera of Germany – a place where the rich and famous came here to see and to be seen – a haven for having ballroom dances and to reside by the “White Town by the Sea.” Nowadays this location has become the perfect hotspot for big and small families. Discovering your own country is something one forgets from time to time – so I couldn´t wait to discover the Baltic Coast of Germany. Once I arrived the first thing I noticed is how the coasts are clean – there’s no jellyfish or other plagues waiting to attack me in the water 😉 The only negatives have to be the water temperature averaging at around 20-22°C which is a bit cold – but as my sister said this year South Africa´s coasts are freezing too so can´t complain. Additionally there is a three story kid’s villa for any parents who want to spend that oh-so-special alone time away from the kids.
Before going I read online that a lot of people inquire whether they’ll need a rental car or not to get around. It is simple and easy, no car is needed. Kick back relax, enjoy the sand between your toes and enjoy nature (Sorry guys, no Pokemon chasing this time ☺)
Not to worry, you won’t get too bored…. A Golf Club is situated just 8km away and will keep you on your feet for a couple of hours, horseback riding by the beach (how romantic!) or visiting the fully equipped fitness center to keep those pesky pounds away after a few too many delicious macarons. If you want to treat yourself, the luxe spa offers relaxing treatments and massages. The culinary experience, besides their luxury breakfast buffet offers everything that the heart desires. I enjoyed a meal at their gourmet restaurants Kurhaus, if you want to try something else you can also opt for the sushi bar.A cocktail at sunset is also available at their trendy beach bar which is the most romantic ending to the evening.

Our spacious 35 qm2 large superior room had a view into the large park located in the Severin Palais. It also had a direct elevator entry to the pool and spa areas. The room was equipped with a cozy king-size bed, an elegant marble bathroom with high quality equipment and complimentary Wi-Fi. My favourite was the small seating area where I’d cosily sit and watch some television. A great feature was the spacious working area which accommodates all my working equipment. The room was decorated in soft pastel tones making me feel like a modern princess. I also love receiving the international newspaper every single day!
*Please note, these shoes are new :-p
Grand hotels are not primarily known for being particularly child-friendly, but the first thing that stands out here is children’s laughter. I like the mix of audiences so this was special. And as I write this, I wish I could smell again the fresh air of the sea. Can´t wait for the next adventure…
