In the mid of April I attended the 10. Anniversary of the Victress Awards 2015 in the Andels Hotel Berlin. It is no secret that up until this day, there still is a debate about the lack of women in boardrooms all over the world. Nevertheless, it still remains the challenge to modify existing corporate cultures and social norms so that diversity can be consciously achieved and utilized. Victress therefore provides a platform which represents gender balance. This initiative eV has the goal to increase the proportion of women entrepreneurs and women in leadership positions to make our country and the world fit for the future. Founder Sonja Fusati wants to accelerate social change through the replacement of outdated stereotypes against modern positive role models, breaking down barriers in people’s minds that prevent this potential from developing. The evening was exceptional, well visited and had a red carpet and lots of journalists invited. It is always inspiring listening to the interesting candidates, in all fields of business supporting each other. Ceo of DexLeChem, Sonja Jost is revolutionizing the pharmaceutical industry by manufacturing green chemicals which are water based instead of the previously used mineral oil. Ceo Freya Oehle, founder of Spottster, a website and an app which lets you list and save products. What’s so practical about it, it send you a notification once this items gets cheaper and is on sale. All in all the awards went out to seven outstanding and smart women also including Regine Sixt (Senior Executive Vice President of Sixt International, an international car rental and leasing business) who won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Victress Awards 2015.
Starting my own business at the age of 21, I aspired to do it with the help of my sister. We ventured out, not surely knowing what we were doing but it is true, you learn by doing and even when it’s sometimes a struggle, you treat your company like it’s your baby. You never let it drop. I always knew from a very young age that I wanted to have my own business. It’s this feeling of being able to control and safety. You don’t necessarily run your company into the ground. It is a phycological thing. That’s also why I love supporting other people, especially women who venture into the unknown and sometimes instead of going right, go left. There are so many women out there with so many great ideas which go to waste because they don’t have the courage to pursue their ideas.
